In short: be honest about which results are yours, be decent to other athletes, and know that scores are estimates. Challenges are between you and the other athlete: we never hold or move money, and any stake is your own arrangement. The site is in beta and provided as is.
1. These terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Someone2Race LLC, a Virginia limited liability company ("we", "us"), which runs Someone2Race (https://someonetorace.com). By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
2. Who can use it
- You must be at least 16 years old.
- Money stakes in challenges are only for people 18 or older, and only where they're legal for you (see section 6).
- One account per person, in your real name, with accurate information. Keep your password safe; you're responsible for what happens in your account.
3. The service
Someone2Race lists races, shows who's racing, computes scores from official results, and lets athletes challenge each other. It's currently free and in beta: features may change, break or stop, and we may lose or have to reset data. Registering for a race on Someone2Race says you plan to race; it does not enter you with the race organizer. Some links to registration sites (such as RunSignup) are affiliate links: if you register through them, we may receive a small share of the registration fee, at no cost to you.
4. Scores and race information
- Race listings and results come from organizers, timing companies and other athletes, and may be incomplete or wrong. Check important details (dates, distances, entry) with the organizer.
- Scores, predicted times, rankings and head-to-head odds are statistical estimates from those results. They can be wrong and they change as results come in. Don't rely on them for anything important, including betting.
- We may change how scores work at any time.
5. Linking and adding results, verification and disputes
- Only link results that are yours. Each result can belong to only one athlete.
- Results you add yourself must be your own, as officially published, and only for races you finished. Don't upload screenshots of other people's results. We may remove added results we can't confirm.
- Activity files you upload as evidence must be your own unedited recording of that race. Uploading someone else's recording, or an edited one, is a serious breach of these terms.
- When two athletes claim a result, the site decides by the process described on the disputes page: the athlete holding the result may lose it if they don't respond in time, and some disputes are decided by us. Our decision is final as far as Someone2Race is concerned, and we may reverse a decision if we learn it was wrong.
- We may remove links, verifications or accounts involved in false claims.
6. Challenges and stakes
- A challenge is a personal arrangement between two athletes. We are not a party to it, we don't hold, transfer or guarantee any money or prize, and we take no cut.
- Any stake is paid directly between you, outside the site. We can't make anyone pay and aren't responsible if they don't. Payment handles you add are shown only to an opponent who owes you.
- You're responsible for making sure a money stake is legal where you live. Don't use challenges for organized betting, as a business, or with people who aren't the athletes racing.
- With a charity stake, the loser donates the agreed amount directly to the winner's charity, on the charity's own site. We never collect, hold or pass on donations, and don't check them beyond what you both confirm. Name a real charity you're happy to support.
- A challenge is public only when both athletes agree, and either can make it private again. Challenges with a money stake can't be public.
- Results are what both athletes report. Report honestly, including any head start you agreed.
- We may limit, cancel or remove challenges, for example to prevent abuse.
7. Your content
You own what you post (your profile, photo, messages and races you submit). You give us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and process it to run Someone2Race, which ends when you delete it, except where it remains in another athlete's challenge or dispute history (anonymized) or in backups for a short time. Don't post anything you don't have the right to share.
8. Rules
Don't:
- harass, threaten, impersonate or deceive other athletes, or post hateful, sexual, violent or illegal content;
- claim results that aren't yours, or manipulate scores, rankings or challenges;
- collect other athletes' data, scrape the site, or use bots or automated access;
- try to break, overload or get around the security of the site;
- use Someone2Race for spam, advertising or any illegal purpose.
You can report a problem to hello@someonetorace.com. We may remove content or suspend or close accounts that break these rules, with or without notice.
9. Racing is your responsibility
Endurance racing carries real risks of injury and death. Nothing on Someone2Race is medical or training advice, and a challenge is never a reason to race when you shouldn't. Race within your limits and follow the organizer's rules.
10. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from your profile. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk, or stop running Someone2Race. Sections 4, 6, 7 (for content already shared), and 11 to 14 still apply afterwards.
11. No warranties
Someone2Race is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including that it will be accurate, available, secure or error-free, or fit for a particular purpose, to the extent the law allows.
12. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, lost money (including any challenge stake), lost data, or injuries from racing, and our total liability for any claim about Someone2Race is limited to US$50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
13. Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of your content, your challenges or stakes, or your breach of these terms, you'll cover our reasonable costs of it, to the extent the law allows.
14. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Virginia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any legal dispute will be decided by the state or federal courts located in Virginia, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it there. Please email us first; most problems can be solved that way.
15. Changes
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date, and ask you to accept significant changes the next time you sign in. If you don't accept, you can delete your account.
